Bernard F. Kula, 94, of Ballou St., died March 20, 2017 in St. Antoine Residence, No. Smithfield. He was the husband of Madeleine (Lacasse) Kula for sixty-six years. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late John and Anastazya (Skrobinska) Kula.
Mr. Kula was a WWII Army Veteran and graduated from RI School of Design with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He worked for several manufacturing companies as a machine design engineer, including Verhulst Comb Works, Whitin Machine Works, Scott Testers, Hasbro Industries, Stanley-Bostich, Leesona, Mossberg Hubbard, Cooper-Weymouth Peterson, and Hanson Systems. Bernard was a communicant of Holy Family Parish, Woonsocket, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the parish council. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the former Interfaith Choir, the former Yuletide Carolers, the Holy Family Choir, and the Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Choir. He was a hospice volunteer for many years through the Visiting Nurse Services of Northern RI and in 2006 received the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Volunteer Center of RI. Bernard was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, enjoyed jogging in his younger years, and liked to travel.
Besides his wife Madeleine, he is survived by three daughters, Christine Kula Beauregard and her husband Alan of Carlisle, PA, Elizabeth M. Kula of North Smithfield, and Anne-Marie Silvi and her husband Joseph of Dedham, MA; a brother, Joseph Kula and his wife Barbara of Barefoot Bay, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Vincent Kula and brother of the late Frank Kula, Sophie Milano, Stasia Harris, and Josephine OShea.
His funeral will be held Monday, March 27, 2017 at 10:00 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Holy Family Church, 414 South Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, 314 Wrentham Rd., Bellingham, MA. Calling hours are Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Antoine Residence, 10 Rhodes Ave., North Smithfield, RI 02896.
