Shorr of Olney, MD, her granddaughter, Dr. Sloane Sevran of Calabasas, CA and her two great grandchildren, Bryce and Hunter Joelle.

Mrs. Shorr was born in Woonsocket on May 18, 1922, the daughter of Ethel and Samuel Blankstein. She attended Woonsocket schools and graduated from Woonsocket High School. She went on to work for The Woonsocket News Company, where she met her future husband, Joseph Shorr, the Manager.

Theywere married August 26, 1944 and celebrated 66 years of marriage. Frances Shorr spent her years as a devoted daughter and sister, and then wife and mother, supporting her husband, as he became the Circulation Manager of the Woonsocket Call. She was also by his side in his religious activities at Congregation Bnai Israel in Woonsocket RI. Of all her accomplishments, she would tell you that she was most proud of being Mrs. Joseph Shorr. She was known for her warmth, understanding and quiet generosity. Her children used to talk about how their friends would come to play with their mother because she was such a loving person. She ensured that everyones homework was done, that everyone was well cared for and that every night there was a joyous family meal on the table. She created beautiful memories for them all. She encouraged her children and their friends to love and support each other.

When her children were in high school, she went to work for the Department of Employment Security for the State of Rhode Island and remained there until her retirement.

Her involvement in the Jewish Community in Woonsocket began when she attended religious school there. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah as well as the Torah Fund Vice-President for the Sisterhood of her synagogue, Congregation Bnai Israel.

In 1964, after Joseph Shorr was named Bnai Briths Man of the Year, the Bnai Brith chapter established the Joseph and Frances Shorr Endowment Fund. Both Frances and Joseph Shorr believed that everyone should contribute to the welfare of the community in his own way. Francess home was always open to others. It was not unusual to find friends, relatives or students from nearby colleges having meals at her table.

She was a role model for all women everywhere. She believed in all that was good and righteous and brought her children up to know no other way.

Frances Blankstein Shorr was a wonderful woman and respected friend and long after she left Woonsocket her friends would call to stay in touch. The light of her life was her granddaughter, Sloane, and her great grandchildren Bryce and Hunter. She felt that just looking at them gave her life and she gave them unconditional love in return. She loved her entire family and was proud of them all.
