Jean Maura Fitzgerald, 75, of Mowry Ave, North Smithfield, formerly of Woonsocket, died June 27, 2016 after a brief illness. Born in New York City, a daughter of the late John and Constance (Butler) Fitzgerald, she grew up in Woonsocket.
Jean is survived by her sisters Claire F. Whelihan (William) of Seekonk, MA and Constance Fitzgerald (Denis DuBay) of Cary, NC. She is also survived by her brother Thomas Fitzgerald of Morrisville, NC and by six loving nieces and nephews and five grandnieces and nephews.
Jean was educated in schools in New York and Woonsocket. She worked at both Woonsocket and Fogarty Hospitals for many years and at the Fabien St. workshop. Jean had an engaging, sunny personality and was loved by all who knew her. She brought much joy to her housemates and will be sorely missed.
Her family wishes to express their utmost gratitude to the dedicated, angelic staff who provided loving care and great kindness to Jean at the Mowry Group Home over the last 21 years, particularly in her final days.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 7 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St, Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Charles Church, 190 Main St, Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone MA. In lieu of flowers donations in Jeans memory can be made to Special Olympics Rhode Island, Attn: Memorial Gifts, 370 George Washington Highway, Smithfield, RI 02917.
