John A. Cormier, 92, of North Smithfield, died November 17, 2016 at Overlook Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Pascoag. He was the long time companion of Maria (Lombardo) Pawlowski. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Cyril Cormier.
A WWII Navy Veteran and 1947 graduate of the former Hill College, Mr. Cormier worked over twenty-five years, retiring as an Auditor, for the former Rhode Island Hospital Trust. He also worked as an accountant for the State of Rhode Island and volunteered for the Albion Fire Department for over twenty years. John was a coin and stamp collector, loved the outdoors, bird watching and fishing. His family and friends will remember him as a kind, loving, gentle companion, and hard working family man.
He is survived by his children, John Cormier and his wife Linda of Slatersville, and Michelle Taylor and her husband Bill of Albion; his companions daughter, Elizabeth Martin and her husband James of Slatersville; his grandchildren, Sean Peckham, Catherine Seiler, Jillian Wheeler, and Jon and Michael Martin; and three great grandchildren, Libby Seiler, and Cabot and Abigail Wheeler. He was the brother of the late Maj. Robert, Theresa, and Marguerite Cormier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 10:30 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 - 7 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket.
