Marcel Peloquin Obituary

Marcel Paul Peloquin, age 92, of Woonsocket, died on Wednesday, July 28, 2016 at the Saint Antoine Residence in North Smithfield. He was the beloved husband of the late Yvonne (Archambault) Peloquin.

Born in Woonsocket, devoted son of the late Josephat Peloquin and Christiana (Lebrun) Peloquin, he shared time between his homes in Woonsocket and in Eastham, Massachusetts.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943to 1946 and received the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific 3 Star Medal and the Philippine Liberation First Star Medal.

He was a graduate of Mount Saint Charles Academy, Assumption College, and Rhode Island College. He began his career in the Woonsocket School System first as a French teacher and then as Vice Principal of the Woonsocket Junior High School, where he served from 1966 until 1986. He coached hockey and baseball at Woonsocket High School from 1954 to 1966 and served as Athletic Director for the Woonsocket School System, during which time he initiated eight new programs for boys and girls sports. From 1973 to 1978 he was Chairman of the board of directors of the Woonsocket Youth Hockey Association. He was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Assumption College in 1999 and at Mount Saint Charles Academy in 2014.

For many years he worked at the Cape Cod Sea Camps in Brewster Massachusetts. He was a life- long parishioner of Precious Blood Church in Woonsocket and served as a trustee. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, listening to jazz, following his favorite teams and telling stories of his life and experience.

He is survived by his daughter Michelle Peloquin of Leeds MA; two sons, Dr. Marc Peloquin and his husband Seth Slade of New York City and John Peloquin of San Francisco, CA; his granddaughter Samantha Peloquin of New York City; his fiance Jay Cote of Woonsocket and his sister, Lucille Hamel and her husband Conrad of Cumberland.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday August 2, at 9 a.m. from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Precious Blood Church, 94 Carrington Ave. in Woonsocket. Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Monday, August 1, from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Saint Antoines Residence or the Nauset Light Preservation Society.
