Maurice O. Pepin

January 4, 2018

The Piano Brothers

Maurice O. “Pete” Pepin, 93, of Blakeley Street, joined his beloved wife of 65 years, Pauline (Brodeur), in eternal peace on January 4, 2018. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Olivier and Aurore (Hamel) Pepin.

A WWII Army Veteran, Mr. Pepin served his country as a member of the 42nd US Infantry “Rainbow” Division, 402nd Field Artillery Battalion.  He was a proud graduate of Hill College in Woonsocket.  Mr. Pepin served the City of Woonsocket as City Treasurer and Tax Collector from 1963 until his retirement in 1987.

Mr. Pepin was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his family meant the world to him.  He enjoyed family gatherings, as well as impromptu visits any day of the week.  He liked gardening and spent countless hours working in his garden and enjoying the fruits of his labor.  In his younger years, he took pleasure in saltwater fishing at different venues in RI, his favorite spot being Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown.  He liked playing cards with friends and relatives and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.  Mr. Pepin was a devout Catholic and lived his religion every day of his life.  While he was a man of few words, he was always available to listen to anyone who needed his help.

He is survived by two sons, Maurice J. Pepin of Woonsocket and Robert L. Pepin of Warwick; a daughter, Jeanne L. Bonin, and her husband Gary of Woonsocket; five grandchildren, Daniel, Timothy, and Marc Pepin, Angela Desaulniers and Emily Bonin, and five great-grandchildren, Nadine, Ethan, Juliet, Oliver, and Madeleine Pepin.

His funeral will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2018, beginning with calling hours at 8:30 AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street, Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Avenue, Woonsocket.  Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, 314 Wrentham Road, Bellingham, MA.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Rhode Island, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
