Timothy Kevin Skiffington

(September 14, 1945 - July 2, 2017)



Skiffington, Timothy Kevin, 71, of Park Ave, Woonsocket, passed away Sunday.

Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the former Speaker of the House and RI House Majority Leader, the late John J. Skiffington Jr. and Helen (Kaffel) Skiffington.

Tim was employed as a Senior Planner for the State of Rhode Island, Department of Administration, retiring in 2007. He served as a steward and treasurer of the AFL-CIO Union. Tim was active in local and state politics, always displaying political yard signs and campaigning on election day.

In 2005 Tim was honored as the first athlete to be inducted into the Woonsocket High School Athletic Hall of Fame. During his high school career he was an outstanding athlete, leading the 1963 football championship with a 9-0 record as captain of the team. He was also on the varsity baseball team, varsity basketball team, and was selected for All-State football. Tim graduated from Providence College.

Tim will be remembered for his genuine smile and always being upbeat and friendly. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, spoiling the family pets, playing tennis, following local sports teams and socializing with his many friends at the Polish American Citizens Club of Blackstone and the Italian Workingmens Club of Woonsocket. Tim had a love of music, especially doo-wop, jazz, and rhythm and blues. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Alan Skiffington and his wife Suzanne of Wakefield, RI, and Bethany Grella and her husband Steven of Mansfield, MA; nine grandchildren, with whom he shared with his former spouse Sheila (Miskiavitch) Skiffington, Jack, Alex, Kyle, Aidan and Aleda Skiffington, Abigail, Catherine, Sophia and Benjamin Grella; a sister, Barbara Deffley and her husband Thomas of Bellingham MA; three brothers, Michael Skiffington of Woonsocket, Jack Skiffington of Woonsocket, and Robert Skiffington and his wife Holly of Little Compton. He was predeceased by his sister Patricia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 415 Olo St, Woonsocket, RI 02895. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone. Calling hours are Monday July 10, from 4 - 7 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to The Woonsocket High School Athletic Booster Club, Woonsocket High School, 777 Cass Avenue, Woonsocket, RI 02895.
