Norman Anderson Obituary

Norman “Nuckie” D. Anderson, 90, of Hutchinson Island, FL and Uxbridge, MA, died on October 29, 2023 in Jensen Beach, Florida. He was the husband of Ruth (Davis) Anderson of Hutchinson Island, FL and Uxbridge, MA. Born in Millville, MA, he was the son of the late Ralph and Aagot (Christiansen) Anderson.

Norman and Ruth were married for sixty four years and were the best of friends. They raised their two boys in North Smithfield, RI, later moving to Hutchinson Island, FL to enjoy retired life. Nuckie proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Norman was a Construction Analyst for The Farmers Home Administration.  He was also a master craftsman who built numerous homes. It was almost impossible to pass through a local town without him pointing out that he had built or worked on a piece of property.  He spent many productive hours in his workshop, lovingly and meticulously crafting countless pieces of furniture for his family and friends.  Nuckie was an avid skier who would gather up his young family and head to Maple Valley Ski Area in Vermont every winter weekend. There they would ski and stay with family, creating many happy memories. Nuckie exuded energy and enthusiasm and well into his seventies, he could still out-ski almost anyone! Nuckie coached both his boys in the North Smithfield Little League and experienced many successes and lifelong friendships from his time spent at the fields.

Nuckie and Ruth enjoyed twenty five winters in Hutchinson Island, Florida. He was very active on the Holiday Out Board of Directors and served on the Building and Grounds Committee. He donated his time, and myriad of talents, to a multitude of projects in the community.

Norman was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and he and Ruth enjoyed traveling to Norway. Nuckie had a special bond with his cousins in Norway and they made it a habit of staying in touch and visiting with each other over the many years.

Besides his wife, Ruth, he is survived by their children, Eric Anderson, and his wife Donna of Uxbridge, MA and Lance Anderson, and his wife Mary of Uxbridge, MA; his brother, Paul Anderson and his wife Barbara of North Smithfield, RI; his grandchildren Zachary and his wife Jillian, Paige, Hope and Maren; his great grandchildren Aria and Darcy; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his siblings Ralph, Gordon, and Raymond Anderson, Esther Matteson, and Evelyn Titherington.

His funeral will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024, starting with a visitation at 10AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a service at 11AM. Burial will follow in Slatersville Cemetery, Greene St., North Smithfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
