Augustine Colella, M.D.

Augustine Colella, M.D., died November 17, 2022, at Briarcliffe Gardens in Johnston, RI. Born in Watertown, MA in 1929, he was the son of the late Agostino and Eva (DiGiulio) Colella.

Dr. Colella was a graduate of Providence College, earned his Master's Degree from the University of Rhode Island, and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1957. He started his general practice in Greenville, RI, and then practiced as a pathologist at John E. Fogarty Memorial Hospital. He retired in 2003 as Chief of Pathology at Landmark Medical Center.

Gus enjoyed playing softball, chess, pickup basketball, tennis, and a spirited game of High Low Jack. He was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan, and a season ticket holder for Providence College Men's Basketball.

He is survived by his children, Stephen Colella, Suzanne Valyo, Paula Colella, Laura Colella, and their mother Maria Teresa (Maresa) Colella; his brother, Albert Colella; his partner, Carol Bliss; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

To honor Gus's wishes, Celebration of Life is private. Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, is directing arrangements.
