Joseph P. Duffy

UPDATE - Mr. Duffy's memorial service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 1:30 PM in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1054 Victory Highway, North Smithfield.

Joseph Patrick Duffy, 59, of North Smithfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 12, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Laurie (Neri) Duffy. Joseph was born in Pawtucket, the son of Bridget (Frawley) Duffy of Pawtucket, and the late James Patrick Duffy.

Joseph served in the United States Marine Corps before being employed by the Pawtucket School Department for over twenty years. He took pride in acting as the Pawtucket School Department's President of the R.I. Counsel 94 - Local 1352 Union for many years. Joseph also enjoyed sports, especially coaching the Darlington Girls Softball League and basketball. He was an active and passionate participant in the Paralympics where he not only participated but also counseled children about learning to live with a handicap.

Besides his wife Laurie, Joseph is survived by his children, Amanda Duffy of Pawtucket, Jessica (Duffy) Oliveira and her husband Edward of Pawtucket, Joshua Neri of North Smithfield, and Stephanie Perrault of Woonsocket. He was brother to Michael Duffy of Pawtucket, Maureen Chapian and her husband Raffi of Cumberland, John Duffy and his wife Rochelle of West Warwick, Kathleen Duffy of Pawtucket, and the late Patricia Duffy. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Robert Neri and his wife Yvonne, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 1:30 PM in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1054 Victory Highway, North Smithfield.. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Friends of the North Smithfield Animal Shelter, PO Box 653, Slatersville, RI 02876.
