Carol Church Obituary
Carol A. (DeVaudreuil) Church, 71, of Slatersville, died November 12, 2018 peacefully at home. She was the loving wife of the late Raymond C. Church having been married for 38 years. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Armand and Emma (Goguen) DeVaudreuil.
Carol was a proud member of the Democratic Party, continuously politically involved throughout the years, and served as a secretary for Senator Claiborne Pell, in Washington, DC, and Providence, RI. She was a graduate of Johnson and Wales University and RIC, where she earned her Masters Degree as a Special Education teacher. She enjoyed over twenty years of teaching at Central Falls High School. Carol truly loved all of her students and has multiple works of art created by them in her home to this day. She also gained many lifelong friends while teaching, as she did wherever she went. She had maintained a strict schedule of Movie Club, Book Club, and visits with the Rockettes, consisting of peers old and new. Carols love of children was the theme of her life earning her the name of town grandma. Her love for her grandchildren and extended friends and family was infinite. She was known for her charitable tendencies and was an advocate for all, especially partial towards womens rights and under-privileged youth.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Hawes and her husband Scott of Slatersville, her two beloved grandchildren, Max and Carter Hawes, her nieces, Amy Devaudreuil of San Diego, CA, and Julie Devaudreuil and husband Brian of Slatersville, her Sister-in law, Susan Devaudreuil along with great nieces and nephews, Ella, Zaida, Griffin, Jasmine, and Damon. Besides her husband Raymond, Carol was preceded in death by her brother Armand DeVaudreuil, Jr. and niece Lori Devaudreuil.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11 AM in Slatersville Congregational Church, 25 Greene St., Slatersville. Burial will be private.
