She is survived by two sons, Dr. William Chan  and his wife Garly of Lincoln, John Chan and his wife Laraine of Woonsocket; a daughter Linda Chuh of San Mateo, California; a sister Margaret Huie of Glen Allen, Virginia.

Ethel had a wonderful appetite for food and life.  Some of the most memorable times were spent over dinner parties with family and friends.  She looked forward to her winter visit to California en route to Hong Kong.  Lady Luck was often her companion when she played mahjong or black jack and slot machines in the casinos. Ethel was also featured in Judith Potter's book "Women Working in Woonsocket" in 2010.

The Chan Family would like to thank her dedicated care givers Rose Tam and Gladys Oye Tenkorang, her drivers Neil Cote and Roger Desmaris, the team of nurses including Heather her CNA Latoya from Hope Hospice Care for their compassion, and the kind staff at Chan's for looking out for Mama Chan.
