Florence Helen (Marteka) LeDuc, 93, of Slatersville, RI, died peacefully on May 21, 2019 at Overlook Nursing Rehabilitation Center. Born in Woonsocket, she lived for more than 40 years in Syracuse, N.Y., before returning to northern Rhode Island in 1998. She was the daughter of the late Frances (Chubay) Marteka Grochowski and Stanley Marteka, and the widow of George E. LeDuc. She leaves a daughter, Renay, and son-in-law Todd McLeish of Pascoag.
Florence graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1943 and married in 1949. She worked for New England Telephone as a telephone operator in Woonsocket in the 1940s and at New York Telephone and General Electric in Syracuse in the 1950s. She also occasionally worked as a seamstress and was especially proud to have made her daughters wedding dress. She was a longtime volunteer and devoted parishioner at St. Michaels Church in Syracuse and St. Patricks Church in Harrisville. She was known as Fid to friends and family in her later years, and enjoyed following the Red Sox, watching Blue Bloods, playing Scrabble, and sharing stories of snowy Upstate New York winters.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 9 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Patricks Church, 45 Harrisville Main St., Harrisville. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 7 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to donate to Covenant House, Times Square Station, P.O.
