Joseph E. Joyal, 86, of Sorel Ave., died on September 23, 2018 at home. He was the husband of Kathleen R. (Smith) Joyal whom he married November 11, 1957. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Orphir and Celina (Rivard) Joyal.
A twenty year veteran of the United States Air Force, Joseph specialized in aircraft maintenance. He also worked as an appliance repair technician for thirty years. Mr. Joyal was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and an avid New England sports fan.
Besides his wife, he is survived by their children, Donna Joyal of No. Smithfield, Carol Foisy and her husband Bob of No. Smithfield, James Joyal and his wife Bonnie of No. Smithfield, Brenda Voas and her husband John of Oakland; two brothers, Marcel Joyal of Woonsocket, Rene Joyal of Woonsocket; a sister, Pauline Joyal of Plainville, MA; ten grandchildren, Jennifer Kennett, Britney Joyal, Joseph Joyal, Kelsey Foisy, Samantha Voas, Cory Foisy, Megan Voas, Marissa Hilldogo, Marqus Gonzalez, Metrius Gonzalez and and fourgreat grandchildren; Amy and Taydon Kennett, Gabriella and Sophia Hilldogo. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Maurice and Jean Marie Joyal; four sisters, Evangeline Dugas, Mary Jean Joyal, Rachel Simoneau and Theresa St. Pierre.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:30 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., No. Smithfield. A burial with military honors will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Tr., Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Stand Down, 1010 Hartford Ave., Johnston, RI 02919.
