Louis Roger Leveillee, 83, of Dayville, CT, formerly of North Smithfield, RI passed away surrounded by his family on April 24, 2018 at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, CT. Born in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late Louis and Marguerite (Laliberte) Leveillee.
He started his employment as the high school librarian and retired in 1990 as the Coordinator of Media Services for the Woonsocket School Department after thirty- three years of service. Upon his retirement he moved to Connecticut and he worked part time at the Killingly Public Library as the Reference Services and Systems Coordinator. He is a graduate of Assumption Prep School in 1953 and from Assumption College in 1957. He earned his Masters Degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Rhode Island in 1967.
He is survived by a sister, Jeannine Farrell of North Smithfield and was the brother of the late Therese Garneau and uncle of the late Paul Garneau. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews including Susan Czyzewicz (John), Maureen Brassard (Craig) and Paula Farrell Laney (Michael) of North Smithfield; Christine Vallee (Dennis) of Harrisville; Patricia Farrell of Woonsocket, John Farrell of Brunswick, Georgia; and Louise, Michel, and Denise Garneau of Quebec, Canada. He is also survived by his great nephews Stephane Vermette, Justin and Adam Czyzewicz, Johnathan Farrell and Farrell Laney.
He had a zest for life and enjoyed sailing, travelling the world, listening to music, attending the theatre, and reading. He loved family gatherings at The Lake and valued his time spent with his friends as well as his animal companions Blanche, Maurice, Pita and Mischief. He will be remembered for his volunteerism at St. Josephs Parish in Dayville, Day Kimball Hospital, Alexanders Lake Yacht Club and as well as his support of education. He was very philanthropic and he supported many organizations and charities including Assumption College, The Woonsocket Museum of Work Culture the Catholic Charity Fund Appeal, and many more. The family also would like to extend their gratitude for the exceptional care he received from Dr. Joseph Botta and the caregivers at Day Kimball Hospital and Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 11 AM at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Avenue, Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, 314 Wrentham Road, Bellingham, MA. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 7 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street, Woonsocket.
