Marilyn Follett Obituary

Marilyn L. (Sawyer) Follett, 88, of No. Smithfield, died November 16, 2019 in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Vernon C. Follett whom she married February 20, 1952. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Walter Sr., and Elin (Lindstedt) Sawyer.

Marilyn graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1949. Once the youngest child entered kindergarten she pursued her dream to become a teacher and graduated from Rhode Island College in 1973. She went on to teach first grade at the former Bushee School as well as Kendall Dean School, No. Smithfield, retiring in 1989. She enjoyed vacationing with her family; and in retirement traveling with her husband visiting much of the United States and Canada in their motor home. Her favorite place of refuge was Bar Harbor, Maine. She enjoyed gardening, crafting and was an excellent seamstress. She was a member of the former First Universalist Church, Woonsocket and its Mr. and Mrs. Club. Marilyns top priority was always family first!

She is survived by her seven children, Bruce Follett and his companion Mary Murphy of Charlestown, NH, James Follett and his wife Rhea Scott of Dallas, TX, Cynthia Manning and her husband Kenneth of Nasonville, Leslie Denomme and her husband Marc of No. Smithfield, Jeffrey Follett and his wife Katherine of Holden, MA, Sharon Scotto of No. Smithfield and Gary Follett and his wife Donna Rae of Oakland, nineteen grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson, three brothers, Thomas Sawyer of Stillwater, NY, Walter Sawyer, Jr., of No. Smithfield and Robert Sawyer of Warwick. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Barbara Connolly and Gertrude Dell Erario.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at The Lighthouse at Lincoln for their kindness and compassionate care that they gave to Marilyn and the entire family.

Her funeral will be held Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 10AM in Slatersville Congregational Church, 25 Green St., Slatersville. Burial will follow in Slatersville Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association RI Chapter, 245 Waterman St. #306, Providence, RI 02906.
