Robert L. Bergeron, Jr., 54, of North Smithfield, died May 2, 2019 at Hope Hospice Palliative Care in Providence after a courageous nine month battle with cancer.
Known as Rob to family, Bob to his work-family, and Robbie to his parents, Rob was born on April 14, 1965 in Woonsocket to loving parents Robert and Jennie (Losardo) Bergeron. He attended Mount Saint Charles Academy and grew up playing hockey and baseball, fueling his lifelong love for New England sports. Rob began working as a cook at the Beef Barn restaurant in North Smithfield while in college. It was at the Beef Barn where he met and proposed to the love of his life, Rachel (Morisseau) Bergeron. They would have celebrated thirty years of marriage on June 3, 2019.
Rob graduated from Rhode Island College with a degree in Computer Science in 1988 and began working at Amica Insurance, where he dedicated himself to thirty years of hard work and lifelong friendships with his co-workers. He leaves Amica as Department Vice President of Corporate Information Systems.
Beyond his work, Rob loved the Boston Bruins, Gettysburg, the Beatles, collecting and playing board games, and enjoying his favorite restaurants in the area, including the Village Haven, Asia Grille, and Tortilla Flats. Above all else, he loved and cherished his family.
In addition to his loving wife and parents, he is survived by children Emily Murray and Matthew Bergeron, son-in-law Derek Murray, and two grandchildren, Olivia Grace Murray and Camden Robert Murray, who will be named in his honor upon his birth next month. He is also survived by Paul Whelan of Woonsocket, who was more like a brother to him than a friend.
Rob was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend, known for his words of wisdom, quick wit, and infectious smile.
