Alice Parent Obituary

Tired after years of struggling with the effects of Alzheimer's, on January 14th Alice M (Jacques) Parent suddenly left this world to be reunited with her husband, Robert J Parent ("Sarge"), who predeceased her. Alice, born in Woonsocket, was the daughter of the late Marcel Jacques and Irene (Chabot) Jacques. Upon battling Alzheimer's, Alice resided at St. Antoine Residence from 2022 until her passing. She had previously been an active communicant of St. Joseph's Parish in Woonsocket.

During her younger years, Alice led a full life, traveling throughout the United States, with her husband who was in the Army, also living in Germany while he was deployed there. She worked at a number of jobs until her retirement at the age of 70. She enjoyed growing her own organic vegetables, and religiously tended to her gardens when she lived with her daughter. Alice enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles, reading and crocheting, a hobby she began in her later retirement years. While at St Antoine, she passionately crocheted scarves, even as her Alzheimer's progressed and her dexterity decreased. Alice crocheted scarves for many of her family and friends as well as for her St. Antoine "family" of caregivers in her unit. She also donated the hundreds of the scarves she crocheted which were distributed to those in need, such as the homeless and residents of various group homes.

She is survived by her loving daughter Jacqueline (Jackie) Charette, who was a frequent companion beside her mother at St. Antoine, crocheting alongside her. Alice is also survived by her sisters Therese Gamache of North Smithfield, and June Gagne of Albion, as well as many nieces and nephews. Her brother Marcel Jacques, and her sister, Irene Jacques, predeceased her.

Those fortunate enough to know Alice found her to be a mild mannered, sweet, caring, kind and loving person, who always had a welcoming smile to greet anyone she met. She courageously faced the challenges of Alzheimer's with that smile, and an unwavering faith and grace. She was loved by her caregivers, who grieved with the family at Alice's unexpected passing. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the loving care Alice received during her residence at St Antoine's Special Care Unit.
