Arlene (Griffin) Smith, 79, of Cumberland, passed away July 31, 2025 in the Grand Islander, Middletown. She was the wife of the late David Smith. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Arlene (Butler) Griffin.
Mrs. Smith graduated from Rhode Island College with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Education in 1972. She spent most of her life as a stay at home Mom proudly raising her children. For many years, she managed the volunteer program at the RSVP Agency of Woonsocket teaching literacy to community members, as well as writing grants for additional funding. During her free time, she demonstrated her artistic side making crafts, drawing, painting, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She treasured her summers at her lake house.
In Lake Winnesquam. She spent many days with the visitors to her Little Free Library that was her cherished gift from all her Grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, Christopher Smith and his wife, Debra, of Cumberland, Heidi San Souci and her husband, Bryan, of Cape Coral, FL, Heather Rousseau and her husband, Wayne, of Lempster, NH, and Jenna Smith and her husband, Matthew Pierson, of Cumberland,; a brother, Robert Griffin of North Carolina, two sisters, Jane White of Lincoln, and Joyce King of Florida; twelve grandchildren, Christa-lynn, Kayleigh, Trevor, Ethan, Brittany, Bekka, Bryan Jr., Jacob, Owen, Travis, Rook and Knox; and four great grandchildren, Charles, Silas, Thea and Zoya. She was the sister of the late Judy Lavendier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 10AM in St. Joseph's Church, 1200 Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, 661 Prospect St., Pawtucket. Calling hours are Friday from 4-6PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket.
