Charles E. Bessette, 95, of Castle Hills Condo’s in Blackstone, died October 18, 2023 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of the late Jacqueline (Chenier) Bessette and the late Laurette (Lariviere) Bessette. Born in Blackstone, he was the son of the late Josephat and Marieanne (Leroux) Bessette.
Charlie worked as a facilities manager for Taft Pierce, Woonsocket for nineteen years, before retiring as a property manager for State Property of New England, Newton. He was a lifelong communicant at St. Theresa’s Parish, Blackstone, and currently of Divine Mercy Parish, Blackstone. He was an active member for St. Theresa’s, and a part of the finance committee. He was a member and past president of Millerville Men’s Club, Blackstone, and a member of the Elk’s Lodge of Woonsocket. He loved playing cards, and would play in many leagues, and with many family members. Charlie was also a member of the Planning Board in Blackstone for many years.
Charlie loved to go to Aruba, and was a snowbird to New Smyrna, FL. He enjoyed dancing, cooking, and eating, singing French songs to his grandkids and was always the jokester.
He is survived by his children, Maurice Bessette and his wife Harriet, of Atlanta, GA; Suzanne Guilbert and her husband Donald, of Palm Bay, FL and Christine Laverdiere and her husband David, of Woonsocket; his brother Maurice Bessette, of Rumford; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry Bessette and his sisters, Rolande Smith and Pauline Rabideau.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 10 AM at Divine Mercy Parish at St. Paul's Church, 48 St. Paul Street, Blackstone. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, 310 Wrentham Rd, Bellingham, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Paul's Church, 48 St. Paul Street, Blackstone, MA 01504.
