Clare A. (Rivard) Smith, 92, of North Smithfield, passed away April 2, 2026. She was the wife of the late William Smith. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Anna (Clare) Rivard.
Mrs. Smith had worked as a telephone operator and had also worked for the former Finklestein's in Woonsocket, before raising her family. Family meant everything to Clare, she loved caring for them and spending time with them any chance she could. She was a devout Catholic, strong in her faith, and would pray daily to Mother Theresa. Clare also enjoyed spending time at the beach, playing cards and yard sales.
She is survived by her five children, Linda Bouffard and her husband, George, of Conway, SC, Cheryl Custer and her husband, Craig, of Johnston, Melissa O'Connor and her husband, Dennis, of Tampa, FL, Matthew Smith and his partner, Marlene Briggs, of Enfield, CT, and Susan Parillo and her husband, Richard, of Johnston; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Arlene Sarnosky.
Her funeral will be held Friday, April 10, 2026 beginning with visitation from 9-10AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Agape Care South Carolina, 136 Stonemark Lane, Suite 100, Columbia, SC 29210
