Darlene Lachance Obituary

Darlene F. (Bateman) Lachance, 67, of Woonsocket, died April 19, 2025 in her home after a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of John D. Lachance, whom she married on July 17, 1976. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Janet (Martens) Bateman.

Darlene was a paralegal for ACS Industries Inc., Lincoln for 48 years, where she was the longest tenured employee known for her kindness, dedication and strong work ethic.

She was the cherished mother to their daughters Jill Chattman and her husband, Jamie, of Woonsocket, Jennifer Zion and her husband, Chris, of Sarasota FL; and proud grandmother to their two grandchildren Mileena Lachance and Jamie Chattman, Jr. both of Woonsocket. She was predeceased by her brothers, Harold C. and William R. Bateman.

She also leaves behind her beloved chiweenie Stella, who never left her side.

Darlene had a heart full of love and compassion, especially for animals. Before her illness, she found great joy in volunteering at the local animal shelter. She was also a talented baker and found happiness in sharing her creations with those she loved. Christmas was by far her favorite holiday showcased by her exquisite gift wrapping. She could be seen gift shopping for an Adopt-A-Family every year for more than 20 years.

More than anything she cherished time spent with her family, creating memories filled with warmth, laughter and love. Despite enduring the heartbreaking losses of both her parents and brothers, she carried herself with strength and warmth that touched everyone she met.

Darlene was a true gem - resilient, giving and full of grace. Her legacy of love, strength and generosity will live on in all who know her.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, April, 26, 2025, beginning with visitation at a 4PM, followed by a service at 6:30 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woonsocket Cat Sanctuary, 266 Mendon Rd. Woonsocket, RI 02895.
