Edward Bourdon Obituary

Edward F. Bourdon of Celebration, FL, died June 30, 2019 in Orlando, FL. He was the husband of Nancy M. Bourdon, ne Donovan. He was born on December 29, 1946 in Providence, RI, the son of the late Normand J. and Genevieve (Fitzpatrick) Bourdon.

A Rhode Island native, Ed was a 1964 graduate of Our Lady of Providence (OLP) High School. A highly acclaimed student athlete at OLP, he was named to the first team All-State baseball team as a third baseman. Ed led his American Legion baseball team to the Rhode Island State Championship and was then selected to a Rhode Island All-Star team which traveled to South America to play local teams as part of a People to People cultural connectivity initiative. He also led OLPs basketball team to the Rhode Island High School State Championship tournament. During his military service in Europe, Ed was selected to represent the U.S. Army on its traveling baseball and basketball teams. All his experiences as both athlete and coach prepared him to coach his favorite team: his children and grandchildren with whom he attended countless baseball, basketball, soccer, golf, cross-country, and track practices, games and competitions.

After graduatingfrom OLP, Ed attended the College of the Holy Cross, graduating in 1968. Upon graduation from Holy Cross, he volunteered for military service in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, Ed returned to OLP as a teacher and coach. He then obtained his M.B.A. from Bryant College and began an executive career. Ed was one of the first employees of the Rhode Island based G-Tech Corp. During his time with G-Tech, he was responsible for the Companys operations in Rhode Island and subsequently New York, which was and remains one of the worlds largest lottery operations. After a long and distinguished career spanning more than 25 years, Ed retired from G-Tech as the Vice President of New York State Operations.

While he will be remembered for these many academic, athletic, military and professional experiences, the most memorable aspects of Eds life are unequivocally his Roman Catholic faith, his love and devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family, and his commitment to coaching and mentoring all those around him.

Ed and his dear wife Nancy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past March. Ed and Nancy had four children including their late infant daughter Mary Angela Bourdon. Ed is survived by his wife, Nancy; their daughter, Amy Elizabeth Bourdon of Cheshire, CT; and their two sons, Christopher J. Bourdon, and his spouse Kimberly, of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Jon Patrick Bourdon, and his spouse Katherine, of Alexandria, VA. Ed is also survived by his five brothers, Paul Bourdon of Collierville, TN, David Bourdon of Williamsburg, VA, the Reverend Father Norman W. Bourdon of Cumberland, RI, Peter Bourdon of Wakefield, RI, and Thomas Bourdon of Cartersville, GA; two sisters, Sister Mary Bourdon, R.J.M, of Washington, DC and Judith Padula of Killingsworth, CT; his eight grandchildren: Genevieve and Patrick Bourdon; Edward (Teddy) and Cora Bourdon; and Mark, Luke, Olivia, and Edward (Eddie) Rydzy; and dozens of beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 beginning at 9:30 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Church (3357 Mendon Rd., Cumberland).
