George N. Beaubien Jr., 80, of Woonsocket, RI, passed away January 24, 2025. A lifelong Woonsocket, RI resident, he was born on November 11, 1944, the youngest child of the late Saveria "Mary" (Silba) and George N. Beaubien Sr.

George, also known as GB or G to his friends, began a lifelong career as a photojournalist for The Woonsocket (RI) Call in June of 1966. He became a writer for The Call in later years, covering general news and feature stories. He was also known for his weekly Sunday column, "Just Between Us." Throughout his career he earned numerous accolades from The Rhode Island News Photographers Association, The RI Press Association, Rhode Island Professional Photographers Association as well as regional and national awards from The Associated Press. In addition to his career in the news industry, he opened "Reflections", a photography studio housed in the former Gov. Aram Pothier mansion at 172 Pond St., Woonsocket, RI

For the final twelve years of his career, George worked as a staff photographer and writer for The Valley Breeze newspapers, covering the communities of Woonsocket, North Providence, Glocester and Cumberland.

After his retirement from the news industry, he earned a Master Gardener Certification through the URI Extension Program, furthering his lifelong passion for gardening.

Throughout his life, George gained inspiration from nature, sailing, exploring Rhode Island's coastline, his daily walks at Union Cemetery in North Smithfield, watercolor painting, listening to music, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by two sons, Brett Vincent Beaubien and his girlfriend, EB Carter of Wood River Junction RI, and Nicholas Jon Beaubien and his fiancée, Danielle Loomis of Mapleville, RI. He is also survived by his former wife and the mother of his children, Janet E. Beaubien, of Woonsocket. He was the brother of the late Louis Beaubien, Alphonse Beaubien, and Antoinette "Tony" (Beaubien) Dugas.
