Gertrude M. Champagne (formerly Mother Mary Gemma, JM), 85, of Woonsocket, died November 22, 2024 in The Friendly Home. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred Champagne and the late Simonne (Lebrun) Giguere and her husband, Oliver Giguere, Sr.
Gertrude spent her time as a nun, teacher, vice principal, and principal in the Bronx, NY. She later worked in the billing department at Miriam Hospital, and retired from the Villa at St. Antoine. Gertrude traveled extensively throughout her life. She enjoyed dining out, and loved to spend time with her nieces and nephews.
She leaves her sister, Paulette Lamberto of Woonsocket; two brothers, Robert Giguere of Woonsocket and Oliver Giguere, Jr. of Blackstone, MA; six nieces and nephews, Eric, Lucas, and Michelle Giguere, Tina Gelinas, David Lamberto, and Ann-Marie McMillan; many grand nieces and nephews; and two great grandnieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Claire Giguere, and her niece, Tammy Roy.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2024, beginning with visitation at 8:30 AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Agatha's Church, 34 Joffre Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, 11A Blackstone Valley Place, Lincoln RI 02865.
