Harold Golden Obituary

Harold Golden, 99, of Mendon Rd., died Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Evelyn (Bernstingle) Golden, whom he married October 1, 1939. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Samuel and Sarah (Yaraus) Golden.



Mr. Golden was a Wool Waste Dealer with his father at Sam Golden Son, Inc., Woonsocket, in which he would become President and carry on the family tradition. A member of Congregation Bnai Israel and formerly a member of Bnai Brith, Harold was an accomplished athlete in his youth and enjoyed baseball, basketball, golf and the horses throughout his life. He was a member of Kirkbrae Country Club and Golf Racquet Club At East Pointe.



Along with his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Arlene Golden Gilbert of Cumberland, a son, Robert Golden of Buckeye, AZ, two granddaughters, Jessica Rose Golden and her husband Robert Toth of West Palm Beach, FL, and Leslie MacNeill and her husband Michael of Gainsville, FL, two great grandsons, Holden and Hudson MacNeill and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Alan Golden and brother of the late James and Edward Golden, Gertrude Caslowitz, Dorothy Katz, Esther Smalley and Charlotte Sugarman.



His funeral will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 1PM in Congregation Bnai Israel, 224 Prospect St., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Bnai Israel Cemetery, Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Shiva will be held in the family home at 2970 Mendon Rd., Unit 162, Cumberland on Tuesday from 7-9PM and Wednesday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Jasper Fund for the Care and Rescue of Animals, c/o The Rhode Island Foundation, One Union Station, Providence, RI 02903.
