Harry L. Dicks, 88, of Blackstone, died May 28, 2017 after a brief illness in Hope Hospice Palliative Care Center, Providence. Born in Blackstone, he was the son of the late Arthur H. and Hilda A. (Bailey) Dicks. Harry lived nearly his entire life in the family home and was one of the five generations to reside on the historic Federal Street property since 1890.
Harry was committed to helping others in recovery; he worked as an addiction counselor for AdCare in Worcester MA, partnered with 40 years of sobriety in AA. In his early years, he worked for the U.S. Government in several foreign stations as a member of the CIA. He received his Bachelors Degree in French Language from Brown University in 1951. Harry will be remembered as a quiet man who was proud of his family. He enjoyed working on word puzzles and spending time outdoors, he especially loved working in the yard splitting rocks, clearing brush and gardening in his younger years.
Mr. Dicks is survived by a niece, Nancy Mandeville of Blackstone; two nephews, Les Dicks of Bellingham, and Brian Dicks of Uxbridge; eighteen grandnieces and nephews, as well as numerous great-great grandnieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Frederick Dicks.
