Helen Nichols Obituary

Nichols, Helen I. Doo (Comire), 90, of Woonsocket, died Friday, September 3, 2021 at her home of 60 years surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Oscar E. Nichols who passed away in 2020. Born November 3, 1930 in New York, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Irene (Kilgalon) Comire.

Prior to her working in the Attorney Generals office as part of the child advocate program CASA, Helen served as program director for The Young at Heart senior citizen program in Woonsocket, RI. She also served as a State Representative in 1982.
Helen was involved in many organizations throughout the years; MSC Mothers Club, Quota Club International, Project Linus, Autumnfest and The Stadium Theatre to name just a few.

Helen will most notably be remembered for her love of arts crafts; whether teaching or learning, she loved, loved, loved her crafts and surrounded herself with everything she needed for her projects. In addition to her crafts, she will always be remembered as the lady who taught crochet; Mrs. Nichols Crochet Classes whether at home or at the Woonsocket Senior Center introduced many people to the art of crochet which for many continues on today.

Helen is survived by three children, Cheryl-Ann Connolly of Mendon, MA, Lynn-Ann Rousseau and her husband Gary of Harrisville, RI, Brian Nichols and his wife Christine of North Smithfield, RI; seven grandchildren, Brittany Robichaud and her husband Matthew, Brendan Rousseau and his fiance, Samantha Chaves, Ashley Connolly and her fianc, Erick Deschamps, Jillian Paolino and her husband Jamie, Travis Connolly, Kelsey Nichols and Megan Nichols; four great grandchildren, Jhett and Jacee Paolino along with Charlotte Robichaud and baby boy Robichaud arriving February 2022. Helen is also survived by her three brothers, Walter Comire Jr and his wife Pauline of Chepachet, RI, Robert Comire of Fort Mill, SC and Norman Comire of Bellingham, MA along with many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her son-in-law, Dale Connolly and her sister-in-law, Jeanne (Merlet) Comire.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 8 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in St. Agathas Church, 34 Joffre Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham. Calling hours are Friday from 5-7 PM. Masks are required in both the funeral home and church, regardless of vaccination status. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helens memory to The Stadium Theatre Foundation, 28 Monument Square, Woonsocket, RI, 02895-3023.
