Jacqueline I. (DuBois) Maurice, 94, of North Smithfield, passed away on March 11, 2025, at St. Antoine Residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald Maurice. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Irene (Lareau) DuBois.
Jackie had a deep love for the ocean and cherished time spent by her pool. An avid reader, she loved to cook for her family and sew. She spent over 21 years in North Carolina, where she found great joy in teaching CPR and working with parents of young children. She was also a passionate gardener, particularly proud of her delicious North Carolina tomatoes. Another highlight of her life was to visit the Vatican in 2007.
Fiercely independent and full of personality, Jackie was a firecracker—opinionated, direct, and always quick with a sharp remark or a warm welcome. She had little filter but an enormous heart, and her love for family was undeniable; the family ‘glue’. She thought nothing of driving 12 hours alone just to visit loved ones, and she made every holiday special with her famous ambrosia and ice cream cakes.
She is survived by her three children: Gary Maurice of Winston-Salem, NC; Karen Maurice Enzer and her husband, Dr. Yoash R. Enzer, of Rehoboth; and Glen Maurice and his wife, Carol Maurice, of North Smithfield. She also leaves behind her sister, Paulette Cecconi of Rumford; eight grandchildren: Dr. Jason Gagnon, Jessica Maurice Hassler, Angela Gagnon Heffron, Heather Griffin, Jeffrey Maurice, Lauren Maurice, Dr. Katelyn Enzer, and Joshua Enzer; as well as twelve great-grandchildren: Jules, Connor, Ella, Abbie, Grace, Nick, John, Owen, Lucy, Charlie, Caleb, and Lili. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her grandson, Gerald D. Maurice, and her siblings, Madeleine Boyer, Paul DuBois, and Bernadette Rochefort.
Jackie had a spirited approach to life, facing every adventure with humor, warmth, and determination. She will be deeply missed, but the stories, laughter, and love she shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, beginning with visitation from 9 – 10:30 AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Antoine Activities Fund. 10 Rhodes Ave., North Smithfield, RI 02896.
