Janet C. (Richards) Horn, 86, of North Smithfield, died February 4, 2025 in the HopeHealth Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence, surrounded by her family. She spent 64 years with her loving husband Donald P. Horn, whom she married June 11, 1960. Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Leona (Racine) Richards.
Janet was a graduate of St. Charles High School, Providence. She was a secretary at Kendall Dean School and North Smithfield Elementary School, retiring in 1998. Janet enjoyed playing and beating family and friends at dominos and cards. She will be especially missed by the neighborhood bird population whom she consistently provided food, water, and shelter. She was even more passionate about keeping her family well fed with no one ever leaving hungry and rarely empty-handed.
Besides her husband, Donald, she leaves her children, Patricia Horn Ferron and her husband, Richard, of Smithfield, Elizabeth "Betty" Saccocia and her husband, Steven, of Norton, MA, and James Horn and his wife, Janice, of North Smithfield; her son-in-law, Dr. John Santo of Newburyport, MA; her brother, Richard Richards and his wife, Patricia, of Killingly, CT; eight grandchildren, Michael Ferron and his wife, Natania, Steven and Timothy Ferron, Joseph Santo, Ian and Allison Horn, and Gwen and Olivia Saccocia, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Dr. Kathleen Horn Santo; her brother, Robert Richards; and her sister, Marie Messier.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 9:30 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 PM.
