Jeanne Legare Obituary

Jeanne Legare, 94, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loving family on July 22, 2024.

Jeanne was a lifelong resident of the Primrose section of North Smithfield. She was the daughter of Ella (Girard) Villiard and Joseph Villiard and the wife of the late Roland Legare. She was predeceased by her brother, Victor Girard, and leaves behind her sister-in-law, Pauline Girard, in addition to several nieces and nephews as well as their children.

Jeanne attended St. Clare High School in Woonsocket, going on to attend Hill College at a time when the College welcomed veterans returning from the War. After college, she spent several decades working for the State of Rhode Island in the Personnel Department.

Jeanne was very close to her three generations of extended family and was always there for them. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and loving manner towards her family, the most recent addition to which included little Maeve. Their 90-year age difference did not stop the two of them from playing together, watching TV or cuddling in the recliner.

Jeanne liked trips to Maine for lobster and Florida for fun Disney vacations. She also cherished her childhood memories of Primrose, attending its one-room schoolhouse, skating on Primrose Pond, and delivering milk with her father. In fact, she had recently recorded a video with the North Smithfield Heritage Association on her recollections from childhood.

At Jeanne's request, burial will be private in St. John's Cemetery, Slatersville, RI. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 S. Main St., Woonsocket, RI. Memorial donations may be made in her name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
