John F. "Jack" Greene, Jr., 79, of Blackstone, died May 14, 2025 in UMass Medical Center, Worcester. He was the husband of Gretchen J. (Foy) Greene for 38 years. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late John F. Greene, Sr. and Eileen (Maloney) Greene.
Jack served his country for 4 years in the Air Force, where he earned the rank of Sergeant. Jack earned his Associated Degree in Business Administration from Johnson & Wales University. He was a lineman for Mass Electric/National Grid for 38 years.
Besides his wife, Gretchen, he leaves his children, Shawn Greene of Worcester, Connor Greene and his wife, Angela of Douglas, and Courtney Nantais and her husband, Brandon, of Blackstone; two brothers, Richard Greene and his wife, Theresa of Mendon and Thomas Greene and his wife, Donna of Blackstone; three sisters, Kathleen Greene and her partner, Linda, of Mansfield, Patricia Greene of Blackstone and Kelly Ferrier and her husband, Gregory of Douglas; his grandchildren, Josey and Avery Nantais and Ayla, Autumn and Jackson Greene. Jack leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Scott Greene.
Jack loved his family, his friends, camping at Echo Lake, boating, traveling, sports, the PACC, a good western, a good drink, a good joke and a good laugh.
Jack was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Elks, the VFW and the Polish American Citizens Club of Blackstone.
The family would like to thank the Blackstone Fire & Rescue, Blackstone Police, Life Flight staff, and the nurses and doctors at UMass Medical Center for the care they gave Jack.
His visitation will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 1-4pm, with Military Honors at 4pm, in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
