John Lahousse Obituary

John M. Lahousse, 70, of Woonsocket, passed away on March 27, 2025, at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care. He was the beloved husband of Lynn (Gagne) Lahousse, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Woonsocket, John was the son of the late Lionel and Adele (Belleville) Lahousse. His restaurant career began at The Cottage Club and Vermette’s, eventually leading him to become a dedicated entrepreneur. He was the proud owner of several well-known establishments, including Vermette’s Restaurant and Christopher’s Family Restaurant in Woonsocket, Grumpy’s Restaurant in Bellingham, MA, and The Lodge Pub & Eatery in Lincoln. His passion for the restaurant industry was matched only by his love for his family.

John found joy in golfing and was a proud member of Kirkbrae Country Club. He was an avid Disney fan and cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was a dedicated New England Patriots season ticket holder and a devoted Boston Red Sox fan and loved attending an Opening Day game. Music was also a big part of his life.  He was a lifelong fan of Engelbert Humperdinck and attended his concerts every year.

John had a heart of gold and generously supported family and friends and many children’s and local charity organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn, and their children: Christopher Lahousse and his wife Susan of Cumberland; Brian Lahousse and his wife Brooke of Bellingham; and Jenny and Jeremy Lahousse, both of Woonsocket. He also leaves behind his siblings: Jane Iskierski and her husband Joe, Celeste Fregeau and her companion Norman, both of Woonsocket; George Lahousse and his wife Muriel of Douglas; David Lahousse and his wife Donna of Woonsocket; Debra Okruta and her husband Pete of North Smithfield; and Lisa Ryan and her husband Joe of Blackstone.

John was a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren: Caitlyn, Marissa, Jayden, Amber, Lucas, William, and Jeffrey, and a proud great-grandfather to Sadie and Ari. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter Lahousse. John held a special place in the heart of his grandfather, Grampa Belleville, and was known as his favorite grandchild.

John’s funeral will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 1220 Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Old River Rd., Manville.
