John F. Powell

John F. Powell, 74, of Woonsocket, died October 20, 2024 in The Friendly Home. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late James T. and Alice (Farrar) Powell.

John served in the Navy and Army National Guard. He worked for CVS Corporation for over 30 years, and was one of the first people hired to work there. He was an avid New England sports fan, loved to read, and spent time volunteering for the Special Olympics.

He leaves his former wife and longtime companion Diane Powell; his son, Christopher Powell; his sister, Barbara A. Provensal and her husband, Raymond, of Ft. Myers, FL; his nephew, David Provensal and his wife, Patricia, of North Providence; five grandnieces and nephews, Nicole Hagan, Rebecca Provensal, Anthony Pinto, and Sarah and Zachary Provensal. He was predeceased by his nephew, James Provensal.

His funeral will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, beginning with visitation from 9:30 - 10 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 1200 Mendon Rd., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
