Lawrence “Larry” A. Edgerton, 64, a proud native Vermonter, died on Saturday, February 20, 2021 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, RI, of complications from Covid-19, with family at his side.
Larry was born in Middlebury, VT on January 12, 1957, the middle son of the late Elmer “Bud” Edgerton and Marjorie (Roucoulet) Edgerton. He attended St. Mary’s School and graduated in 1974 from Middlebury Union High School.
Larry loved Lake Dunmore more than any other place on earth. Growing up in Salisbury, VT, he spent every waking moment all summer in, on or under the water, swimming and water skiing. As a teenager, he worked at Waterhouse’s, and he was exceptionally proud to be a member of the Waterhouse family through his paternal grandmother, Mary Frances Waterhouse Edgerton. He derived his greatest joy from spending time with his children, Pat and Ali, the lights of his life.
He was a talented carpenter and he worked for several years at Basin Harbor Club, maintaining the buildings and sometimes building furniture. Like his father, the best part of any job for Larry was meeting people. Most recently, he was employed as a maintenance man at Benchmark at Forge Hill in Franklin, MA, where he enjoyed his contact with the people he called “my residents”.
Larry will be greatly missed by his children, Patryck Waterhouse Edgerton, of Lima, OH, and Alicia Taylor Edgerton, of Kingston, RI, both college students, and their mother, Jane DiFranza of Melrose, MA. Also grieving his untimely loss are his siblings, Jean Edgerton, Tom Edgerton and Carolyn LaRose (David), all of Middlebury, VT; Diane Johnson (Bruce) of Dorset, VT and Steven Edgerton (Karen) of Bomoseen, VT; his nieces and nephews, Seth Barrows (Marsha), Justin Barrows (Anna), Caleb Edgerton (Vicky), Jennifer Zeno-Ethridge (Dennis), Leah Connolly (Tom), Joshua Edgerton (Kathleen), Jennifer Bolton; his grandnieces and grandnephews, Jack, Sam and Lauren Barrows, Braeden Barrows, Alexxis Zeno, Thomas Connolly and Luca Edgerton, Hayden and Hunter Bolton; his aunt, Patricia Moore of Bomoseen, VT, and his uncle, Thomas Derby of Vergennes, VT; many, many cousins, and special friend, Ashley Elizabeth of Woonsocket, RI.
Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895. Larry’s ashes will be interred at a later date with his parents and paternal grandparents in Holman Cemetery in Salisbury, VT. The family will host a celebration of Larry’s life after the threat of Covid-19 no longer exists. Friend are encouraged to make a donation to a favorite charity in his memory.
