Leo E Grenier, 81, of Woonsocket, died June 7, 2024 in his home. He was the husband of Suzanne M. (Dutremble) Grenier, whom he married May 17, 1969. Born in Bellingham, MA, he was the son of the late Norbert and Helen (Gazaille) Grenier.
Leo served in the U.S.Army during the Vietnam War. Returning home he became a carpenter building residential wood frame homes and eventually started his own construction business, Grenier Construction, first with his brother Roland and then later on his own. He was a member of St Joseph’s church as well as a member of the St Joseph Senior Citizens Club. Leo enjoyed both fresh and salt water fishing with many tales of success, his favorite being the 50 lb saltwater striped bass he caught from shore on Nausett Beach in Orleans MA, for which he won a trophy. He was a hard working man who worked long and hard days to provide for his family and insuring promising futures for his children. Besides fishing he did enjoy finding time to golf, play cards in a cribbage league, BINGO, and work on his 1967 Mustang convertible. Leo also enjoyed spending the winters in Florida for the last nine years.
Besides his wife, Suzanne, he leaves their sons, Leo E. Grenier, Jr. and his wife, Karlynn, of Cumberland, and Robert M. Grenier and his wife, Jacqueline, of Uxbridge, MA; his brother, Robert Grenier of Woonsocket; his sisters, Pauline Rondeau of North Attleboro, MA, Claire Champagne of Bellingham, MA, and Lillian Freelove of Warwick, RI; four grandchildren, Brittany, Nicholas, Madilynn and Logan; and forty-one nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Lucille Laferierre, Norbert Grenier, Jeanne Beauchamp, Paulette Lussier, Alice Bouchard, and Roland Grenier.
His funeral will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 9 AM from the Holt funeral home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Joseph’s Church 1200 Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 PM.
