Lorraine McGee Obituary

Lorraine C. (Landry) McGee, 79, of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, in her daughter's home surrounded by her family.

Lorraine was the wife of the late Richard H. McGee, to whom she had been married for 55 years. Born in Woonsocket, on June 23, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Albert T. and Theresa (Desmarais) Landry.

Lorraine worked for Marquette Credit Union, retiring as the assistant to the vice president. During her time there she learned from her mentor, John Dionne, about the importance of community involvement. Lorraine will be remembered as a dedicated volunteer for many community organizations, including, but not limited to the Girl Scouts of RI, where she was the recipient of the Golden Mentor Award. The Jaycees Organization where she served as the only female on the committee involved in the dedication of the Woonsocket Vietnam Veteran's War Memorial. The Milk Fund, where she was awarded for her outstanding contribution to the needy children of Woonsocket by the Keough Council Knights of Columbus. She was also acknowledged by the Muscular Dystrophy Association for her commitment to the fight against neuromuscular diseases. Lorraine and Dick cosponsored Up With People, an international performance organization, with their respective employers, Marquette Credit Union and The Woonsocket Call. They served as a host family for over five years.

Lorraine and Dick relocated to Port St. Lucie, Florida in 1991. Lorraine worked at The Stuart News in Port St. Lucie, Florida until her retirement in 2011, when they returned home to Woonsocket.

Lorraine leaves her devoted daughter, Brenda McGee with whom she lived and her fiancée Charlie Schwab; her brothers Robert Landry and his wife Doris of North Smithfield, Richard Landry and his wife June of Woonsocket; three sisters, Jeannine Petrin of Woonsocket, Jacquline Doiron of North Smithfield and Denise Concilio and her partner Paul Boulay of Woonsocket. She was predeceased by her brother Raymond Landry. She also leaves many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, January 11th, 2025, beginning with visitation at 10 AM, followed by a noon service at Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street, Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hope Health Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
