Mary Jean "Lea" Ethier Obituary

Mary Jean "Lea" (Couture) Ethier, 86, of Millville, passed away August 22, 2024 at home with her family by her side. She was the wife of fifty-six years of the late Romeo Ethier. Born in Upton, MA she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Juliette (Arguin) Couture.

Mrs. Ethier worked in the cafeteria for local schools, including Mt. St. Charles Academy, Woonsocket, and Bryant University, Smithfield. Lea was a devout Catholic with a positive outlook on life, and enjoyed knitting, gardening, and canning. She was an active member of the Millville Senior Citizen's Club, but her passion was caring for animals, and in her younger years, she had even helped raise a lion at Southwick's Zoo. 

She is survived by three daughters, Deborah Lagor and her husband, Martin, of Millville, Denise Zariczny and her husband, Stephen, Sr., of Woonsocket, and Donna Albin and her husband, Mark, of West Townshend, VT; a brother, Roy Couture of New York; eight sisters, Lucille Nelson of Florida, Gertrude Riley of Framingham, MA, Loretta Cervassi of Upton, MA, Theresa Martin of Upton, MA, Shirley Sambor of Mendon, MA, Louise Martin of Virginia, Pat Joy of Framingham, MA, and Janice Searles of Upton, MA; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Paul Couture, Doris Bailey, and Madeline LeBastie; and was the step-grandmother of the late Stephen Zariczny, Jr., and Jason Lagor.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 beginning with visitation from 9 – 11 AM in the Holt Funeral Home 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in Divine Mercy Parish at St. Paul's Church, 48 St. Paul St., Blackstone, MA. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, 314 Wrentham Rd., Bellingham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HopeHealth, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
