Mehmet Selim Cetiner, 77, of the Boston area, passed away peacefully at home on hospice care on September 12th, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Mardin, Turkey, and pursued his education in England, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Birmingham University. He went on to complete his PhD in Automation, a field to which he dedicated much of his professional life.
In 1974, Selim immigrated to the United States and made his home in the Boston area, where he lived for most of his life. He had a lifelong love of learning, problem-solving, and building, qualities that shaped both his career and his personal life.
Selim is survived by his devoted wife, Aygul, as well as the two children he and Aygul shared together - a daughter, 23, and a son, 19. He was a loving father, deeply proud of his children's accomplishments, and a source of wisdom and strength to his family.
In retirement, Selim enjoyed spending time in his garden, working on cars, and maintaining his home - always happiest when his hands were busy and his family nearby.
He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his sharp mind, and his kind, steady presence. His wife cared for him tenderly at home during his final months, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and hard work.
Services were held at Holt Funeral Home in Woonsocket Rhode Island, followed by a burial in Union Cemetary.
