Michael R. Dowling

Michael R. Dowling, 84, of North Smithfield, died April 21, 2025 in St. Antoine Residence. He was the husband of Judith (Smith) Dowling of North Smithfield. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Dr. Richard and Margaret "Joan" (Billings) Dowling.

Michael was a self-employed manufacturer’s representative.  He graduated from Providence College where he played hockey; later becoming an avid supporter of the Friar hockey program.  He enjoyed golf, having been a member of the Whitinsville Golf Club for over 40 years.  Michael was a huge sports fan, especially the Red Sox.  He enjoyed the outdoors, having taken hunting trips with friends and business partners to Maine, upstate New York and the Arctic.  In his later years he greatly enjoyed an annual fishing trip to Maine. 

Along with his wife, Judy, he is survived by his children, Michael Dowling and his wife Patricia of Blackstone and Christopher Dowling and his companion Nancy Hoffman, of Grand Rapids, MI; his brother, Richard Dowling of North Smithfield; five grandchildren, Erin, David, Jennifer, Graham and Elise; and one great grandchild. He was predeceased by his son David Dowling.

A visitation will be held Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 1-4PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of North Smithfield Animal Shelter, PO Box 653, Slatersville, RI 02876
