Michael D. Skiffington

Michael D. Skiffington, 79, passed from this life on July 15, 2021 at the Hope Health Center in Providence, RI after an illness. He was a former resident of Darlington Memory Lane in North Providence and a lifelong resident of Woonsocket. Michael was the beloved son of former Speaker of the RI House John J. Skiffington and Helen (Kaffel) Skiffington of Woonsocket.

He was a 1960 graduate of Woonsocket High School, where he was a member of the varsity football team. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman stationed in Newport, RI, serving four years, and was a proud member of the American Legion. Michael was an employee of Verizon for many years. He was a lifetime communicant of Sacred Heart Parish.

Michael is survived by his sister, Barbara A. Deffley, and her husband Thomas M., of Bellingham, MA, two brothers, John J. of Woonsocket and Robert P., and his wife Holly, of Little Compton, RI, his niece Bethany, and her husband Steven, of Mansfield, MA, and nephew Alan, and his wife Suzanne, of Wakefield, RI, nephews, Patrick of Bourne, MA, Thomas of Bellingham, and his fiancee Heather Griffin, John, and his wife Michelle, of Franklin, MA, as well as many great nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Timothy K. Skiffington and Patricia J. Skiffington.

Michael was a good and loyal friend to many and a lover of animals. He was also the champion of the underprivileged.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2021 beginning with visitation at 9:45am in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Holy Trinity Parish, 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket, RI 02895. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone, MA.

The family wishes to acknowledge the care and concern given to Michael by the staffs at Darlington Memory Lane and the Hope Health Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Michaels name sent to Holy Trinity Parish.
