Reine T. Sonnenberg

Reine T. Sonnenberg, also known as Reinette, 94, died February 22, 2021 in Westview Health Nursing Home, Dayville, CT. She was the wife of the late Paul E. Sonnenberg.

Reine was born in Pawtucket, RI, daughter of the late Harvey J. and Dora (Charpentier) Champagne. She was a 1957 graduate of Framingham State University and a 1962 graduate of Worcester State University. She worked in the Framingham schools as a first grade teacher and trained student teachers for over 24 years. While on sabbatical she lived and worked with the teachers and children in Oxford and Nottingham, England. There she had the opportunity to participate in many of the school programs, at the elementary and college levels.

During the Korean War, Reine served duty in the U.S. Waves as a journalist at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Quonset Point, RI, where she met her husband, Paul.

After her retirement, she was an active member of St. Aidan Seniors Club, St. John Vianney Seniors, Monastery Heights Seniors, and the Cumberland Widows Group, all of Cumberland. She was also actively involved with St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield, RI and with other local nursing homes.

Reine, known as "Auntie Re" to all who loved her dearly, leaves many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was the sister of the late Charles and Robert Champagne.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 10 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 1200 Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, 359 Daggett Ave., Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Antoine Residence, 10 Rhodes Ave., North Smithfield, RI 02896, or to Westview Health Care Center, P.O. Box 428, Dayville, Connecticut 06241.
