Richard L. Dowding

Richard L. Dowding, 94, of North Smithfield, died August 25, 2023 in The Holiday Retirement Skilled Nursing, Lincoln. He was the husband of the late Frances B. (Goodwin) Dowding. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Charles and Vera (Lake) Dowding.

Mr. Dowding was a Korean War Veteran, who upon his discharge, worked as a painter with his father. He was considered by many as the mayor of North Smithfield, as he loved to talk to anyone in his community. He loved BINGO, going to the casino, watching football and most of all spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Nancy Dowding, Debra Parent and her husband, Richard, Richard Dowding and his wife, Diane, all of North Smithfield, and Barbara Mowry and her husband, Wayne of Bellingham; his grandchildren, Pamela Artruc and her fiance George Sparrow and Jeremy Dowding and his wife, Kimberly; his great grandchildren, Brooke and Kayden Artruc, Ella and Brady Dowding; and his sister, Barbara Dunphy of Port St. Lucie, FL. He was predeceased by his sister, Elaine Steere.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 4-6PM, followed by a service at 6PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
