Richard Gongoleski Obituary

Richard R. Gongoleski, 84, of North Smithfield, passed peacefully on May 23, 2025 with his family by his side in the HopeHealth Hospice Center. He was the husband of Margaret (Ferrio) Gongoleski for 63 years, of North Smithfield, where they lived most of their married lives. He was the son of the late Raymond and Wadyslava (Ostrowski) Gongoleski.

Richard was a craftsman in his own right, he loved to work with wood and make things come to life - someone once said he had magic hands and that he did when it came to either building houses or furniture. He attended St. Paul's School, North Smithfield, Lasalle Academy, Providence and Woonsocket High School. He loved the woods of Maine, and would often take his sons and son-in-law hunting. He also enjoyed fishing, games shows and cooking. He was a USMC reservist, member of the NRA, American Legion Fairmount Post 85, and member of the Veteran of Foreign War.

He will be remembered for his quick wit and dry humor. He was a tinkerer and we know he is with the Lord helping out because he could not sit still for long.

Along with his wife, Peggy, he is survived by their children, Bethany Crook and her husband Christopher of Bellingham, Michael Gongoleski of Woonsocket and David Gongoleski of North Smithfield; his siblings, Warren Gongoleski and his wife Phyillis, Gregory Gongoleski and his wife Catherine, Gail Mondoux and her husband John, and Rosalyn Zito; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew and Emily Gongoleski; sister-in-law, Donna Hertzog and her husband Conrad; and many nieces, nephews and godson James Gongoleski. He was predeceased by his siblings Roman and Rodney Gongoleski and baby girl Gongoleski.

A graveside service will be held privately in the family lot in the Ukrainian-American Cemetery. Peace be with you Richard, you are loved.
