Richard Mullen Obituary

Richard James Mullen, 64, of Foxboro, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021, in his home, in the presence of his immediate family, after a battle with brain cancer. He was the husband of his beloved wife, Diane (Snay) Mullen, whom he married July 12, 1980. Born in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late Harriett (Hodder) Brazier. Upon her passing in 1966, his Aunt Edith and Uncle Norman Hoyle welcomed him into their home and raised him as one of their own.

Richard was an engineering technician at Texas Instruments/Sensata Technologies for over 41 years before retiring in 2019. He had multiple passionate hobbies, one of which was the collection, repair, and restoration of clocks. He will forever be remembered as a knowledgeable handyman, who would always be the first to lend a helping hand to everyone he knew. His favorite time of the year was planting flowers at family graves for Memorial Day. Richard also devoted many years to being Scoutmaster of Foxboro Boy Scout Troop 32. He looked forward to volunteering at Boy Scout camp during the summers, especially teaching the metalwork merit badge even up to the summer of 2019.

Above all, Richard was the ultimate family man. He took great pride in raising and spending time with his daughter Laura, and her husband Robert Vermilye, of Illinois; and his son Daniel Mullen, his wife Julie, and their daughter Abigail, of Oxford, MA. He loved every moment with his sweet baby girl, Abigail, playing with music boxes, reading books, and teaching her about tools. Abby and Da Pa had a special connection and his memory will always be with her.

Richard is also survived by his seven siblings, Diane Sawyer, Mary Hoyle, Dawn Hoyle, and Jody Angell, all of Blackstone, MA, Barbara Duprey of Pascoag, RI, Robin Stander of Chelmsford, MA, Jill LeBlanc of Millville, MA, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, June 20, 2021 from 1 to 4 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street Woonsocket, RI. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 10 AM in Christ Community Church, 31 Church Street Blackstone, MA. Burial will follow in Blackstone Cemetery, Mendon Street, Blackstone, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Boy Scout Troop 32, care of Connie Gonsalves, 7 Margaret Road, Foxboro, MA 02035 or by email at [email protected].
