Robert H. Bedard, 86, of Chepachet, Rhode Island, died September 24, 2023 in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Bertha H. (Beausoleil) Bedard. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Leo and Edna (Champagne) Bedard.
Besides his wife, Bertha, he is survived by two sons, Daniel Darling, and his wife Robin, of Woonsocket, Scott Darling, and his wife Susan, of Manville; four grandchildren, Samantha Darling Plasse, and her husband Christian, Kerri Darling, and her partner Troyak Alarie, Kyle Darling, and his wife Lauren, and Colby Darling, and his wife Erica; and seven great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Aiden, Mia, Addison, Cameron, Arlo and Austin. He was predeceased by his brothers, William and George Bedard, and his great-grandson, Wyatt Plasse.
Bob worked as a substation technician for BVE. He graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1956. He was a letter man athlete in football and hockey. He was voted most handsome of his class. After high school, he served in the US Navy on the USS Bon Homme Richard. During his time in the Navy, he was stationed on Midway Island and visited many areas on the Pacific Ocean.
Bob was a member of the Woonsocket Elks and Cercle Laurier, as well as the Victory Sportsman Club, Glocester. He was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. He went on many family vacations along the east coast. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the lake. "Captain Bob" as people called him, would always offer to take people out on the lake on his boat. He was a great dad and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held Friday, September 29, 2023 from 4-6PM, followed by a service at 6PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895. Due to family allergy concerns, the family respectfully requests, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Providence VA: PVAMC - Voluntary Service (135), 830 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence, RI 02908.
