Roger A. L'Etoile, 79, of North Smithfield, died February 19, 2025 in VA Medical Center, West Roxbury. He was the husband of Janine (Tancrell) L'Etoile of North Smithfield, for almost 57 years. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Augustine and Helen (Boisvert) L'Etoile.
Roger worked for Almac's until they closed in 1995 and then BJ's, Uxbridge. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving in the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment “Blackhorse Regiment” as a SP4 during the Vietnam Conflict. During his time in Vietnam and in part due to his bravery, he received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during war time. He enjoyed collecting coins, watching all sports, hiking, walking and traveling the world with his wife.
Along with his wife, Janine, he is survived by their children, Michael L'Etoile and his wife Darlene, of North Smithfield, and Nicole Beck and her husband Joseph, of Johnston; his siblings, Augustine L'Etoile of Little Compton, Ronald L'Etoile of North Smithfield, George “Andy” L'Etoile of Blackstone, Eugene L'Etoile of Northfield, MA and Marie-Anne L'Etoile of TN; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Bethany, Kimberly, Jacob, Macey, Maggie and Will; and one great-granddaughter, Stella Grace. He was predeceased by his siblings, Rene L'Etoile and Helen Caine.
His funeral will be held Sunday, March 2, 2025 starting with a visitation at 1PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street, Woonsocket, followed by a service at 4PM. Burial will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans, DAV, 380 Westminster Mall, Providence, RI 02903.
