Roland Gauvin Obituary

Roland C. Gauvin, 76, of Cumberland, passed away November 7,2025. He was the beloved husband of Carol A. (Stearns) Gauvin for fifty-three years. Born in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late Camille J. and Rose (Connolly) Gauvin.

Roland was a social, community, political, and environmental activist his entire life. He was a past secretary and vice president of the Woonsocket Jaycees and the past Community Development and Individual Development Vice-President for the RI Jaycees.

Mr. Gauvin prided himself on being the co-founder of the Northern RI Chapter of Trout Unlimited. He was also a board member and former vice-president of the Blackstone River Coalition and former board member of the Blackstone River Watershed Council/ Friends of the Blackstone. He volunteered at the Franklin Farm Community Garden.

Mr. Gauvin was a member of the James Michael Ray Chapter 818 Vietnam Veterans of America.  He was a disabled Vietnam Veteran who served on the USS Enterprise from 1968-1970. He was also a Colon Cancer Survivor.

Roland believed in living life to the fullest. He has skydived, zip-lined, white water rafted, and driven race cars. He believed in being an able disabled veteran.

Besides his wife, Carol, he leaves his daughter, Leigh-Ann Plante and her husband Mark, of Burrillville, and his son Michael Gauvin and his wife Jodi, of Cumberland; his 6 grandchildren, Ashleigh Plante, Jessica Plante, Sean Gauvin, Quinn Gauvin, Madison Mirabile, and Marissa Mirabile. He was predeceased by his brothers Dennis P. Gauvin, Normand L. Gauvin, and his daughter-in-law, Kimberly O. Gauvin.

His funeral will be held Friday, November 14, 2025 beginning with visitation at 4PM followed by a service at 6PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to RI Trout Unlimited, 203 Acadia Road, Hope Valley, RI 02832 or DAV - Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
