Russell Berard Obituary

Russell J. Berard, 85, of Woonsocket, passed away on November 1, 2024, at Landmark Medical Center. He was the devoted and loving husband of Suzanne (Giard) Berard with whom he shared the last 37 years of his life. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Russell and Irene (Guerin) Berard.

Russell joined the Woonsocket Fire Department in 1962 as a firefighter and worked on the rescue for many years throughout his career, retiring in 1989. He was also a member of the fire department's scuba rescue diving team. Russell owned Russell J. Berard Roofing and Gutterworks specializing in slate and copper work. His hobbies included restoring antique cars, traveling in his RV with his wife and dogs and playing golf.

Along with his wife, Suzanne, he is survived by their children, Debra Blanchette and her husband Leon, of Foster, Kathleen Berard of Chepachet, Nancy Fitzgerald and her husband Patrick, of Palm Coast FL, Russell C. Berard of Chepachet, Richard Courtemanche and his wife Gina, of Aitkin, MN and Christine Yacino and her husband Dennis, of West Palm Beach, FL; his sister Lorraine Doherty of Woonsocket; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.

Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St, Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
