Teresa (Kane) Chartier, 96, of North Smithfield, died March 17, 2024 in her home. She was the wife of the late L. Andre Chartier, whom she married on December 29, 1951. Born in Acushnet, MA, she was the daughter of the late James L. Kane, Sr. and Marguerite (Lannan) Kane.
Teresa worked as a telephone operator, retiring in 1967. She was a vocalist at many area churches; singing at weddings, funerals and weekly services. For many years, she and her best friend, Nancy Roy, also enjoyed singing at various area nursing homes. Teresa was also an accomplished artist and portrait painter. She loved working in her gardens and relaxing under the shade of her umbrella or on the porch. Teresa was also a communicant of St John's the Evangelist church.
She leaves her children, James A. Chartier and his wife, Nancie, of Wickford, Mary Ellen Barnatt and her husband, Thomas, of Milford, MA, John K. Chartier of Vienna, ME, and Matthew K. Chartier of North Smithfield; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, M. Alice Callanan, and brothers, Thomas J. Kane Esq, James L. Kane, Jr., and William J. Kane.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 beginning with visitation at 8:30 AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Hospice, 50 Maude St., Providence, RI 02908.
